The Science Box: Primary Science Experiments in the Classroom

The Science Box is ABC School Supplies' flagship primary science programme, developed to transform the way science is taught in Irish classrooms. Created specifically for the Irish Primary Curriculum Framework, it provides everything teachers need to deliver engaging, practical and meaningful science lessons that inspire curiosity, creativity and a lifelong love of learning.

At the heart of The Science Box is a simple belief: children learn science best by doing science.

Rather than simply reading about scientific concepts, pupils investigate real-world questions, make predictions, test their ideas, observe outcomes and communicate their findings through carefully structured, hands-on investigations. Every lesson encourages children to think like scientists—developing curiosity, resilience, critical thinking and problem-solving skills that extend far beyond the science classroom.

A Complete Science Programme

The Science Box is far more than a collection of equipment. It is a comprehensive teaching and learning programme designed to reduce preparation time, build teacher confidence and ensure every pupil has the opportunity to experience high-quality science education.

Each curriculum unit includes:

• A robust Science Box containing all the equipment required for a class of up to 30 pupils working collaboratively.
• A detailed Teacher Guide with curriculum links, lesson plans, scientific background knowledge, classroom management advice, assessment opportunities and extension activities.
• Photocopiable Pupil Investigation Sheets featuring engaging investigations, recording sheets and opportunities for reflection and scientific discussion.

Every investigation has been carefully written to reflect the learning outcomes of the Irish Primary Curriculum Framework while remaining practical, engaging and achievable within a busy classroom. Activities are flexible enough to support differentiation and can be adapted to suit the needs, abilities and interests of every class from Junior Infants to Sixth Class.
