UFLI Jolly Phonics Decodable Readers

Jolly Phonics Readers can be a helpful supplement to the UFLI Foundations programme when used carefully and intentionally. While Jolly Phonics follows its own progression, many of the readers align well with the early to intermediate stages of UFLI and can be used to reinforce previously taught concepts. ✅ Recommended Jolly Phonics Readers to Use Alongside UFLI 🟢 Level 1 Readers (Red, Yellow, Blue Books) Use for UFLI Units 1–9 These readers focus on CVC words using the first 42 letter sounds (s, a, t, i, p, n, etc.). Examples: “Mud”, “Inky”, “Zack” These are a great match once students have learned short vowels and basic consonant sounds through UFLI. 🔵 Level 2 Readers (Green, Orange, Purple Books) Use for UFLI Units 10–20 These readers build on Level 1 by introducing consonant blends (bl, st, gr) and some digraphs (sh, ch, th, ai). Examples: “In the Sun”, “The Rocket”, “The Chest” Suitable for reinforcement after UFLI introduces digraphs and blends. 🟣 Level 3 Readers Use for UFLI Units 21–35+ These books include more complex words, alternative spellings, and longer sentences. Examples: “Looking for Snake”, “An Inter-School Quiz” Can be used to support fluency and vocabulary in later UFLI units. 🗂️ Jolly Phonics “Little Word Books” Use for UFLI Units 1–10 These tiny books focus on blending practice with basic CVC and VC words—perfect for beginners or struggling readers.
