Partitioning Box to 20

This split box offers the ultimate flexibility:

Choose the quantity of balls you want to use (up to 20) and ‘lock’ the others away out of view in the third compartment, or remove them completely if you wish to use all three compartments.

Choose whether you wish to split the balls into two or three sections.

Hide/reveal one or two of the three sections.

Size: 12.5 x 7.5cm.

Ideas for use in the Classroom:

Example – using two sections

Fill the middle section of the box with 8 balls (‘lock’ the others in the left hand section).

Close the lid over the ‘locked’ balls and also close the lid over the middle section.

Shake the box.

You can see that 5 balls have landed in the right hand section. How many are in the middle section?

Uncover the middle section to see if you are right.

Example – using three sections

Fill the box with 20 balls and uncover the right hand section.

Cover the middle section and then shake the box.

You can see that 2 balls have landed in the left hand section and 12 balls have landed in the right hand section. How many are in the middle section?
